County bonds, particularly green county bonds, present an opportunity for counties to generate resources for the much-needed development of county infrastructure such as water piping, county roads and the development of agriculture, just to name but a few sectors and activities, in a green and climate-resilient manner. Financial Sector Deepening Trust Kenya (FSD Kenya) commissioned Agusto & Co. as the lead consultant to assess the potential of counties in Kenya to access and apply to the green bond market for the development of green infrastructure activities. This project will assess the potential for counties to access and apply to the bond market for the development of green activities.
Nairobi City County was one of the 10 counties selected for the assessment, which aims to provide the County with a better understanding of its green assets and potential, as well as the improvements that they need to make to access green bonds. As part of the evaluation, Agusto & Co. visited Nairobi City County in December 2022 to engage members of specific stakeholder groups including county officials, civil society organisations, private actors and community representatives who were invited to a workshop to discuss issues on the identification of green assets, projects and capabilities of the various stakeholder groups in the County. In addition, the workshop served as a medium for obtaining information relevant to the macro, fiscal and credit assessment of the County.
