Wajir County Deputy Governor, H.E. Ahmed Muhumed, held a debrief meeting with a consortium of organizations, comprising Financial Sector Deepening-Kenya (FSD), Adaptation Consortium (Ada), Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), Capital Markets Authority (CMA), and Agusto & Co.
The team, which was led by Dr. Milkah Chebii from FSD-Kenya, has been in the county since Monday, May 15, 2023.The team aims is to support the County Government of Wajir in assessing its green bond potential and applying to the bond market for the development of green project activities.
The assessment is meant to help counties learn about their green assets and potential, as well as how the market views the county’s creditworthiness.
Through this process, counties will have a better understanding of not only the strengths that they have but also the improvements that they need to make to access green bonds.
The team also engaged with state and non-state actors to assess the county’s readiness, which will also help to better understand its strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities in the bond market.
During the assessment, the county actors prioritized the following key thematic areas for potential assessment and financing through the capital markets:
Environment, Energy, and Climate Change ,Water and Sanitation Sector, Agriculture and Livestock and Health Sector.
